- If it was done to them, they don't want to think of themselves as damaged.
- If it was chosen by their parents, they may want to defend their parent's decision. Plenty of people rightfully want to protect their parents.
- Some desire to protect the routine as a part of their religion. Challenging any part of one's religion can be very scary. People don't want to be an outcast among their religious group.
- Some don't want to believe they made the wrong choice for their own child.
- Some want to believe that their doctor and/or medical system has told them the truth.
- Some are medical professionals that can't even consider the possibility that they have been performing a procedure (or supporting a procedure) that hurts people.
This may be redundant, but this helps explain: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_dissonance
As an intactivist, I keep this stuff in mind and not take it personally.
Maybe people respond "offensively" to intactivists because intactivists are assholes? Has that ever occurred to you? JFC.
ReplyDeleteNot just assholes, but uneducated and scientifically illiterate assholes. 😂

DeleteYou want to know why some people don't like intactivists and give them short shrift? Here's why: http://circfacts.org/cyber-bullying/
ReplyDeleteMaybe people laugh at inquacktivists because they’re genuinely entertained by a bunch of misinformed clowns who don’t understand science? We also like to mock anti vaxxers, flat Earthers, and 9/11 truthers, Inquacktivists don’t educate, they simply harass anyone who doesn’t agree with them. They claim they’re all about bodily autonomy, unless an individual is happy being circumcised since infancy, in which case they pretend to be psychics and claim the said individual is “in denial.” Your logic is massively flawed and yes, people will react accordingly to such nonsense.
ReplyDeleteI laugh at them because intactiloons like this blogger need to make themselves feel important. The aforementioned blogger is the custodian at a trailer park but then dresses up on the weekends in a silly costume. He drags his poor kids and bored dog to protest in front of a hospital--a place where there are hundreds of people are doing important things, while he's squawking outside in period pants pretending to be an important "human rights activist" I mean you'd think he'd volunteer at a soup kitchen or help run a canned food drive at the trailer park, but I guess those activities aren't attention-whorey enough where they can say "look at me look at me... I'm important. I save babies. Admire me! Validate me! Congratulate me
DeleteAnyone wanna take bets on how long it will be before his fellow culties show up and start squawking about “cognitive dissonance?”
